Viowiess Co Begins 3D-Printed Microhome Development
KLAMATH FALLS, OR December 1, 2020. Viowiess Co, a US-based additive manufacturing startup , has begun development of affordable 3D-printed housing solutions. Oregon is currently ranked 8th in the US in terms of highest housing costs at a median price of $224 per square foot of residential space. Skyrocketing housing costs, natural disasters, and economic uncertainty have made access to basic, affordable housing a pressing societal issue across America.
Viowiess Co aims to develop and bring to market a simplified housing solution that offers new-build quality at a cost of less than $125 per square foot so that low income and first time home buyers may purchase a safe, environmentally conscious habitat for the same cost of a down-payment on a conventional residential dwelling.
In 2020, Klamath County awarded Viowiess Co a County Economic Development grant in support of R&D and prototyping activities to realize the promise of making housing more affordable through modern manufacturing techniques and material science.
Viowiess Co MicroHabs will be 3D-printed out of concrete and ceramic composite materials suitable to high fire risk zones. The first sub-100 square foot prototype habit is scheduled for completion in late 2021 and will demonstrate basic concepts in modular, semi-finished fabrication using additive manufacturing as the primary construction driver.
